I hate the fact that there is an epidemic of low self-esteem among our young people. Sending the wrong message about what makes their value or worth doesn't help. My nieces have told me about friends who wore those rings and had to choose between taking it off or wearing it as a lie. We have a shaming society when it comes to sex. Our young people are better served by honest discussions about making smart choices rather than being shackled with the equivalent of a symbolic chastity belt. Such a great post. And the irony is.. A girl realizing that she's more than just her virginity (or lack thereof) will give her a better self esteem, and will thus lower the risk of her sleeping around.
