What a wonderful blog post! Thanks for the depth covered here. I fell in love with New Moon as an adult in college, then took an internship there as soon as I graduated. I was on staff for six years and still do freelance work with New Moon Girls. New Moon has been part of my daily life in one way or another for the past ten years — and this post captures perfectly why it’s so important to me to stay connected with this great organization. Thanks so much for helping us spread the word and reach more girls!

That’s super cool. I’m in awe and thrilled about the process including girls and involving them in the editorial process. When my daughter is older, she’s 2 now, I’m definitely going to get her a subscription and set up to be a member online. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.

Our daughter is 14 years old. We first bought NMG for her when she was 9 years old. We noticed that there was something special about NMG. The magazine and online community were designed to foster a positive sense of self instead of sending unhealthy messages about weight and body image. Two years after our daughter became a commited NMG reader and online “sister”, she applied for and was selected to participate on the GEB (Girls Editorial Board). The experience of both being an NMG reader and now a GEB member have helped my daughter to develop into an outspoken, confident, well-read, compassionate teenager. I credit NMG for helping us to raise a daughter who has her own voice despite societal pressures to quiet her.

New Moon Girls is a really awesome magazine and website! I am on the Girls Editorial Board of it so I help make decisions about what content to include in the magazine and give input on other stuff too. It is really fun and a great website- check it out!
